There are those in the masses of MMA fandom that do not appreciate the UFC’s attempts to become a genuinely global brand and find ways in the European marketplace, specifically the UFC 122 lines event which will be put on in Oberhausen Germany on November 13th.
And it is not that these buffs are anti-European or anti German. It is just that the lineup for this German smack down is less than ideal. As we discovered last month with the UFC 120 event put on in London England, planners are inclined to load the fighting lineup with home grown expertise (or at least European expertise) in an attempt to build a bigger fan base in the enormous Euro market which has thus far declined MMA as a sporting alternative.
The UFC 122 gambling competition will highlight 3 German fighters and several other European fighters. The main difficulty with this is that the German MMA scene is relatively modest and nearly none of German fighters in the UFC 122 lines competition are known outside of their villages or cities and especially not to nearly all of the UFC buffs. So even though there are more Germans than usual on the card, they will not be met with more assistance from buffs.
The game of MMA has been met with serious critique in the nation by its press and authorities. It is previously led to minors being forbidden from the first German UFC event, UFC 99, and this it year it is led to the sport being forbidden from being telecast totally. The Germans have found the “extent of violence shown to be unacceptable” and so the event will be aired by tape delay on Spike TV here in the united states, but not in any way in the nation it is in fact being put on in.
The fact that the Main Card headlining matchup in the UFC 122 gambling competition features Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami in a competition in which the champ isn’t even assured a chance at the division title says a good deal about the expertise level of the competition in Oberhausen.
But that does not automatically mean negative news for the MMA buffs wants to play the UFC 122 lines. Whilst these fighters might not be pretty famous and never amount to much on the UFC fighting scene, their comparable anonymity provides lots of gambling opportunity for the informed buffs eager to do a little homework and find out a little more about these unidentified fighters.
Look at for example Pascal Krauss, a German welterweight who’s slated to compete against Englishman Mark Scanlon on the Preliminary card. He’s 6’1″, 170 lbs and he’s never lost an MMA competition in his life. He has got a perfect 9-0 record in MMA competition, 7 of the wins by submission. He may be next huge factor in UFC!
Think about Karlos Vemola, the Czech competitor nicknamed the “Terminator” with a 7-1 record, who will be seeking to make mincemeat of American Seth Petruzelli in the light heavyweight division.
There’s lots of relatively unidentified expertise out there just waiting to be discovered and bet on by MMA buffs in the upcoming UFC 122 Main Event.
